Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry & Ortho position at a hospital in Manchester, NH, requiring at least 2 years of experience and an active NH or compact RN license in hand.
Details
- Work in a 48-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit (E100) within the main hospital building
- Average unit census of 27 patients
- Patient ratios of 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights
- Unit support includes a secretary (7a–11p) and PCTs at a 1:10–15 ratio, with occasional 1:1 PCT or patient safety tech coverage
- Medical-surgical, telemetry, and orthopedic patient population
- Procedures performed on unit include NGT insertion
- Equipment includes Hoyer lifts, automated BP machines, bladder scanner, remote telemetry monitoring, and vein finder
- EMR: Altera/Allscripts Sunrise
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 12-hour shifts
- Every other weekend (EOW) required
- Floating to like Med/Surg Telemetry units (D1, F2) is required; travelers generally float before float pool staff
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NH or compact RN license currently in hand — required at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for Telemetry RNs
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
- Strong head-to-toe assessment skills with orthopedic care knowledge
- IV medication administration experience required, including Lasix drip, heparin drip, IVP metoprolol, diltiazem, and insulin (IV and subQ)
- Experience with wound care including drain management and VACs
- Experience with NGT/G-tube care and parenteral nutrition
- Central line management experience (PICC, HD catheter, midlines)
- Foley, nephrostomy, and suprapubic catheter care experience required
- Ostomy care and postoperative patient care experience required
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration — no Canadian SSNs accepted
- One professional reference required (two required for candidates licensed in Florida or Missouri)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible, no exceptions
- Participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds (MDRs) on day shift Monday–Friday from 10:30–11:15 AM
- Works collaboratively with the team to promote patient care excellence
- Scrubs required; closed-toe shoes required (no Crocs)
- HCA system familiarity is a plus, as the facility is newer to the HCA family
- Unit features brand new blood pressure machines, strong employee retention, an established Unit Practice Council (UPC) meeting monthly, and a highly collaborative team environment
