Night (United States of America)Job Summary:
Responsible for administering and managing all forms of respiratory care in accordance with physician orders and currentclinical standards. The Respiratory Therapist will function as a workgroup leader and unit coordinator administering andrecommending care per protocol for the assigned unit.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Acts as Care Coordinator for Assigned unit. Develops, administers, evaluates and modifies Respiratory PatientCare Plans in the acute care setting, using evidence-based medicine, protocols and clinical practice guidelinesby communicating, collaborating and coordinating with physicians, nurses and other clinicians. Demonstratescompetency in invasive and non-invasive critical procedures and equipment. Serves as a respiratoryconsultant to all hospital service lines. Attends daily patient rounds.Demonstrates knowledge of respiratory medications and pharmacologic interactions. Cites AARC guidelinesand remains current in the field of Respiratory Care. Demonstrates knowledge of clinical chemistries toinclude ABGs and electrolytes and assists others in the application of results. Is a member of the RapidResponse and Resuscitation Teams and skillfully establishes and maintains artificial airways in emergencies.Competent in use and quality control for all point of care analyzers.Participates and facilitates quality improvement projects. Facilitates patient discharge to home and providespatient and family education. Provides clinical assistance in the orientation of new employees and studentson clinical rotation. Provides education to all clinical team members to include physicians and nurses at thebedside and informal classroom setting. Maintains Basic and Advanced certifications as appropriate toassigned areas such as BLS, ACLS, FCCS, PALS, and NRP.Participates in clinical trials and research activities. Demonstrates the ability to resolve difficult situations withfinesse and skill. Has the ability to prioritize and triage delivery of care during times of high acuity.Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills and assures all documentation is accurate, legibleand in accordance with hospital policy. Skilled in-Patient Family-Centered Care.Uses hospital information systems skillfully and complies with security policies. Follows proper handoffprocedure for all transferred patients to assure coordination of care. Processes all associated clinicalequipment and devices to industry standards and performs routine and basic maintenance with associateddocumentation. Participates in patient transports both in and outside the hospital. Conforms and championsinfection prevention measures.Performs other duties as assignedComplies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.Required Minimum Education:
- Associates Respiratory Therapy or Bachelors Respiratory Therapy-Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor or ACLS-P - ACLS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
- PALS - Pediatric Adv Life Support or ARC-PALS - Amer Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS-I - PALS - Instructor or PALS-P - PALS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program or ARC-NALS - Amer Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support or NRP-I - NRP - Instructor or NRP-P - NRP-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
